The (the government) won't pay for the prisons needed though ("Not having the prison population going up on MY watch").

Perhaps we could persuade them to forego on their expenses for a couple of terms to pay for the chaos they've imposed on the country...

Re: Multiple stab attack in Streatham
So people are convicted of terrorist offences where they wish to overthrow the entire Westen society and kill anyone who isn’t a Muslim.

And then in a short period they are released.
It’s impossible to believe anyone could believe that and act to achieve it and then supposedly change their whole world view
Utter nonsense
Any terrorist offence should be a minimum no parole 20 years

Mrs Patel has been in Parliament for 10 years
As has a Tory government

This guy used to live in the next road to me
Would see him wandering about in combat gear looking spaced out and sometimes, the police regular visitors.
They raided the house in the middle of the night in a big operation 2 summers back with armed police and anti terror officers was there for days digging up garden even cutting hedges down.
Was allegedly planning an attack then very close to home as well as the other offences he was jailed for.
The family (mother & younger brothers) were suddenly moved out just before xmas ahead of him being released.

He probably wasn't even that radical. In his mother's country he'd have been a totally normal bloke.

You can't import thousands upon thousands of people from places where his views are de rigueur to a western liberal democracy and not expect this sort of thing to happen.

That's the entire point of why it was done...

Foreign Aid and NGO activity along with the plethora of "foundations" will probably be the next big scandal.

If we want to get our house in order, Foreign Aid should be re-designated "Overseas Disaster Relief" and admiinistered by the military. It should never be set as % of GDP, this is ludicrous.

Foreign Aid should be on a voluntary individual basis, they could probably set up just giving pages on the internet for it and let people give as they wish.

The mother of this piece of shit was on the news, understandably upset.

She went on to claim that he had been radicalised in Belmarsh.

That's Belmarsh where he was in prison for terrorrist offences.

That won't happen because many in authority also have a personal interest in (themselves, friends or family making money from) those activities.

I've never made that assumption and actually agree with you on this. Its almost as though we've been bought.

I think we differ in one important way:

You are approaching the subject with the assumption that the top bods of the police, the courts, and the individuals we elect into positions of power have the best interests of the public and our safety at heart;

They don't.

This isn't about Islam. Islam for all its faults is merely a tool.

Re: Multiple stab attack in Streatham

When you want a hardline response to enemy combatants not only through the gates but brought over here as babies and had their entire lives subsidised and catered for by the taxpayer, you can always rely on a true right-wing nationalist like dear old Priti who has already been sacked once for being a traitor to this country ... incidentally her immediate family was kicked out of Uganda a few decades back with accusations of them acting as a 5th columnist traitor for a foreign state against their adopted nation.

The country is in safe hands with Priti And Bojo Ataturk, then again the alternatives were no better, possibly longer safari trips to Africa and Disney World during their short prison sentences maybe.
That's true democracy!

To respond in a manner that the everyday common man in the street would want is called "populism" which is presented by the media as being a bad thing, you know, to actually introduce policies that the majority would want, rather than nation wrecking policies required by a selected few and hated by the majority.

Re: Multiple stab attack in Streatham
I see Priti Patel is getting criticised for wanting to take a harder line towards people convicted of terrorist offences. No doubt the people on this thread who support the politicians wanting lenient sentences, whilst simultaneously criticise the government for not having tougher sentences will change their minds and support Priti’s efforts.

We are probably large;ly in agreement on this.

But, we have never deported football fans (yet).

I would like to see madrassas and mosques banned from receiving foreign funding and NO visas given to preachers. I would then make mosques seek an annual licence which would be subject to audit and inspection and have to satisfy qualifications on diversity, equality and safeguarding.
